The form-building tool is, itself, and incredibly complex and interactive web app. We built on the Material language to create modular components which could be mix-and-matched into a easy, understandable, and highly interactive interface. These modules can now be used across our system
That interactivity meant that the prototype needed to be extensively user tested with social service agencies, our user-base. I teamed up with a product manager to test with agency staff who were familiar with our existing screeners, and agency staff who had never seen our system before.
Based on their feedback, I made adjustments to the order of operations in development. Through out the dev process I worked to reprioritize they most valuable features to ensure that the key user needs were served. I had to continue to advocate for the most needed user features.
On release we had rave reviews from our user-base. Within 1 month, we’ve had more adoption than in the previous 5 years of screener functionality. With this new feature, more people who have gotten help for their social service needs, and the nonprofits have gotten the information they needed to actually provide that help.
